Big bucks to be made…

Like a huntsman’s fire in the wilderness, the madness of McGregor vs. Mayweather started as a small spark. Ignited with the heat of trash talk, the embers settled on a welcoming bed of media and fan-based kindling.

Even as the winds of speculation and multiple reports fanned the flames, very few believed this crossover fight would take place. The events of the last few months, however, have completely changed out collective perspective.

Money Talks

Although the reigning UFC lightweight champion, there’s nobody left who believes McGregor will fight in MMA next. All the credible news sites, reporters and sources have confirmed it. Conor McGregor will box Floyd Mayweather this year.

Even UFC president Dana White, who originally blasted the idea, has now been a big part of the negotiations. Appearing on The Herd today, as quoted by Jon Fuentes of LowKick, White revealed the purse split of Mayweather & McGregor’s historic bout:

White Reveals Purse Split

“It depends on how much the fight sells. If the fight sells as well as I think it can Floyd makes north of 100 (million) and Conor makes 75 (million),” White said.

“He (Mayweather) feels like he’s the A side and he should get more of it. We haven’t really got to into that negotiation yet. I wanted to get McGregor locked in first because McGregor’s under contract with me. At the end of the day does this fight make sense for me? It really doesn’t. But Conor wants this thing really bad and I’ve said it many times, the kid has stepped up and saved some big fights for me. So I’m in, I’ll figure it out.”

This is nuts!

Thoughts

Emerging from this insane circumstance are many questions. Firstly-what will happen to the UFC’s already struggling lightweight division? Will McGregor even compete in MMA again, let alone defend the title?

On to the Mayweather bout, can Conor hang with the best boxer from the current era? Boxing analysts and MMA pundits have debated over and over, but will the Irishman shock the world as he’s so frequently promised?
