And the game continues…
Just when we thought the saga involving UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor was over, it just got more confusing. In case you weren’t up to speed on this saga, we’ll give you a brief catch up.
Last Tuesday McGregor shocked the MMA world with his sudden retirement. When more facts came to light, it looked as though ‘The Notorious’ had refused to attend his first week of UFC 200 media obligations, leading to an apparent stand off between the Irishman and the promotion. Here’s that infamous retirement Tweet:
I have decided to retire young.
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya’s later.— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) 19 April 2016
It was instantly the most popular Tweet from a sports personality in the last year, destroying the record set by NBA star Kobe Bryant’s retirement Tweet. The argument over fighter treatment blew up once again, and likely didn’t help McGregor’s plight during this drama.
Then came his latest announcement:
Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200!
Shout out to @danawhite and @lorenzofertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect— Conor McGregor (@TheNotoriousMMA) 25 April 2016
Hoorah yelled the MMA world, as we’d get to see Conor McGregor rematch Nate Diz at UFC 200. Or would we?
UFC president Dana White was asked about this latest declaration from ‘The Notorious,’ and you’ll want to hear his reply…
