Fights in UFC’s strawweight or women’s bantamweight division are some of the most exciting in the promotion. Before those divisions existed however, some felt that watching women fight each other was perhaps not something they would be interested in seeing.
Dana White even said as much in 2011, famously stating that women will never fight in the UFC. He changed his mind on that one of course, and so has pretty much everyone else.
One reason some were hesitant to watch women’s MMA initially may have been that women tend to be the more aesthetically pleasing gender in comparison to men. So watching an attractive fighter get beat up could be seen as wasteful from that perspective. Rarely does anyone express such an opinion anymore however.
5. Paige VanZant
How dare you Rose Namajunas?? This bloody, crimson mask that PVZ wears comes courtesy of her loss at UFC Fight Night 80 in 2015. Namajunas beat her up and choked her out in the 5th round of the main event. The loss broke up a 4-fight win streak for PVZ.
VanZant is on something of a skid, having dropped 2 of her last 3. In her last bout Michelle Waterson tapped her out in the 1st round. Her previous bout she landed a switch kick flush on Bec Rawlings’ chin and got the finish.
Speculation is that VanZant is spending less time at Team Alpha Male in Sacramento these days, having recently purchased property in her hometown of Portland.
