UFC color commentator Joe Rogan weighs in on the hot topic of the month. Conor McGregor has gone 13 months since fighting in the UFC but still holds the lightweight title. Maybe not for much longer…

Perhaps allowing Conor McGregor to box Floyd Mayweather was not such a great idea after all. The UFC has created a money machine in Conor McGregor, but at some point, he has become more recognizable than the promotion.

When he joined the UFC in 2013, he could barely afford the clothes on his back. Now, just under five years later, McGregor is demanding a share of the promotion and holding the lightweight division hostage.

After beating Eddie Alvarez for the belt at UFC 205, ‘The Notorious’ first spoke about claiming a stake in the $4 billion company that helped make him famous. Since the Mayweather boxing match, it’s become apparent he is deadly serious about these demands.

Talk from the UFC has now turned to McGregor being stripped for the second time in his career.

Joe Rogan Says It’s Going to Happen Soon

According to UFC color commentator Joe Rogan, McGregor’s time as champion is coming to an end. Rogan believes, as does Dana White if you read between the lines, that Khabib and Tony Ferguson will compete for the undisputed title:

“Here’s my prediction: My prediction (is) Conor doesn’t fight for a while. They strip Conor,” Rogan told guest Tyron Woodley on Thursday’s edition of the “JRE MMA Show” podcast. “Tony and Khabib fight for the world title.”

“I think they’re going to strip him, because Conor’s got $100 million in the bank, and he’s having fun and talking (expletive), and he’s going to keep training,” Rogan said.

“And he’s going to make a big fight in the future, but I think Khabib and Tony is the big fight and (expletive), they might even do that one in Russia. They’re talking about doing a big fight in Russia.”

After already being stripped of the featherweight title for not defending it, this could be a bad look for the Irishman, not that he will care.

Dana White Doesn’t Sound Hopeful

“And to the other fighters, not only to the sport but to the other fighters,” White told Kevin Iole of Yahoo in regards to McGregor owing the MMA world a title defense.

“This is a game of time, do you know what I mean? Time is your enemy in this sport or any other sport. When you’re a professional athlete, time is your enemy. And we can’t go on forever and not give guys the opportunity.

“Tony has been around for a long time and has earned his dues. Khabib has earned his dues. And the list goes on and on and on. So Conor has done very well, he’s made a lot of money.”

“And if he decides if he doesn’t want to fight again for another how long, that’s up to him. That’s his choice and his decision. But the belt has to move on. So we’ve got to figure some stuff out here in the next couple of months.”
