Conor McGregor vs. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Religion and family are two areas that are generally considered off limits. But this past April, Conor McGregor hit well below the belt during his ongoing feud with Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Your wife is a towel mate,” McGregor taunted Nurmagomedov on social media alongside a picture of the lightweight champion and his wife dressed in a traditional Muslim wedding dress. “Rapist, you are Rapist,” an understandably furious Nurmagomedov retaliated, referencing an ongoing investigation into a rape allegation against McGregor in his native Ireland. “You are a hypocrite who is not responsible for your actions. Justice will find you.”
The war of words had now gotten so out of control that Dana White had to personally intervene and that led to McGregor issuing an apology. “I want to move forward, with my fans of all faiths and all backgrounds,” McGregor wrote. “All faiths challenge us to be our best selves. It is one world and one for all. Now see you in the octagon.”
