5. Johny Hendricks
Things have certainly changed since last these two met.
November 16th 2013, UFC 167. Johny Hendricks seemed as though he had just defeated Georges St. Pierre to win the welterweight championship. Then a controversial split-decision victory for GSP is announced. Shortly afterwards, GSP vacated the belt and left the sport.
While it may have appeared that Hendricks was robbed of a victory, there was plenty that had gone on behind the scenes that changes this perspective. When the bout had been signed, Hendricks verbally agreed to advanced drug-testing (which GSP would pay for).
Then, leading up to the bout, Hendricks declined to take part in the advanced testing, which was not required by USADA back then. Part of the reason Georges left the sport was because of his frustration with the amount of PED-use amongst fighters. If you watch Georges’ face when they announced the winner that night, you can see a little smirk cross his face.
Now that USADA requires advanced drug-testing for all fighters, Hendricks hasn’t done so well for himself. Georges may want to show Johny that when PEDs are taken out of the equation, “Big Rig” isn’t in his league.
