Conor McGregor is still the biggest draw in MMA so of course, everybody wants to call him out. One man who deserves that shouts more than others is Nate Diaz. Diaz famously stunned the world by inflicting McGregor’s first UFC loss back in 2016. Then he lost a tight decision in their rematch.

Since then McGregor won the lightweight title, fought Floyd Mayweather and punched an old man in the face. In short, it felt like Diaz’s hopes of a trilogy fight had fizzled out. But now there could be hope after he reopened an old wound on Twitter.

Diaz’s last fight was for the BMF title against Jorge Masvidal. Now it looks like he’s ready to come back and he has his sights set on The Notorious. So far McGregor has failed to respond to his old nemesis. Would you be interested in watching McGregor v Diaz III?

Comeback

As you can see from the tweet above, Diaz effectively called out the Irishman. He mocked McGregor’s description of fighting a ‘season’ in 2020. So far the former two-weight champion has only fought once, beating Donald Cerrone in February. There has been little detail from his camp about his next fight. Diaz tweeted:

“What happened to your season? I was already back in by now wtf

After taking a vicious beating from Masvidal it remains to be seen how much Diaz has left in the tank. McGregor would definitely be the favorite if they fought again but Diaz will be confident of shocking him.

When asked about McGregor’s next opponent, UFC President Dana White was emphatic. He wants the Khabib rematch. From the UFC’s standpoint, it makes sense. It’s the most lucrative fight that they can make. If McGregor fights somebody else and loses then that payday will disappear. Of course, Khabib is already booked to fight Tony Ferguson and El Cucuy is no pushover.

“Khabib, if he wins – but I don’t know if Conor wants to wait for him. We’ll see what happens,” White replied to TMZ when asked who McGregor should fight next. “Conor might not wait.”

Hatred

According to White, Khabib and McGregor hate each other. He also says that McGregor doesn’t handpick his opponents. Everybody knows that McGregor does whatever he wants. However, the Irishman has been increasingly linked to a clash with Justin Gaethje in recent weeks.

“They hate each other,” White said. “If you think you’re going to do an interview with Khabib and he’s going to say great things about Conor McGregor, it’s never going to happen. If you interview Conor McGregor, he’s never going to say great things about Khabib. They hate each other.

“First of all, Conor does not hand pick his opponents. Conor McGregor has fought anybody that we’ve asked him to fight and who’s been available. I mean, guys have pulled out on Conor two or three times. Conor literally went to the gym and said, ‘Tell me who I’m fighting.’”
