UFC’s younger roster fighter, Raul Rosas Jr., hopes to earn the bantamweight title within two years and move to the featherweight in the future. According to Rosas, his days at 153 are now “numbered,” admitting that his body is now growing.
The young fighter signed at UFC at 17. Now at 19 years old, “El Nino Problema” acknowledged that he’s noticing body changes, including gaining more weight. That being said, in a recent interview with Hablemos MMA, Rosas shared the plan to move to featherweight soon.
“I do see my days are numbered at 135 pounds because each weight cut is a little more every fight,” Rosas said in Spanish. “For my fight in Contender Series, I didn’t cut anything, then in my debut I cut a little, and then the following a little more, and so on.
“My body is growing, so I do think that I will have to move up to 145 (pounds) very soon. That’s why right now I want to grab the title as fast as possible at 135, and then go up to 145 pounds.”
Despite that, Rosas underscored that he could still control his weight and meet the weight requirement for his current division. With this, while nothing will stop the move, the fighter shared the plan to get the bantamweight belt within a year and a half or two.
Rosas currently has three bouts in his UFC record. The fighter made a victorious roster debut by defeating Jay Perrin in 2022. It was followed by a loss to Christian Rodriguez in April 2023, but Rosas redeemed himself with success over Terrence Mitchell in September.
It is unknown whether these achievements are enough for Rosas to impress the UFC, but he said he hopes to face ranked fighters at Noche UFC 2024. The young mixed martial artist didn’t name his specific targets next but shared that he could handle anyone and even the best opponent there is.
“I don’t have any specific name, but I feel I can fight with the best, so I’m willing to fight against anybody,” Rosas Jr. said.
