‘El Cucuy’ is Clearly Going Through a Rough Time Right Now… The Lightweight Contender Has Been Slammed With a Restraining Order by His Wife After Multiple Incidents Including Throwing Holy Water at Her…
Let’s get one thing straight: we’re not trolling in this article. Too many guys have mental health issues and while society is slowly changing its attitude towards talking about these problems and dealing with them, it’s still seen as taboo or emasculating by many.
Tony Ferguson is not somebody who should feel emasculated or ashamed about anything. ‘El Cucuy’ is an absolute monster of a lightweight. He’s got the longest active winning streak in the 155lb division and has defeated a whole line of killers to earn his place at peak of the division.
However, now after a series of incidents he has been served a restraining order by his wife Cristina. He has not physically assaulted her in any way as some sites are reporting. Instead, he has been behaving erratically, resulting in this drastic measure.

Issues
Ferguson is clearly going through a difficult patch at the moment because he’s reportedly been visited by police five times in the last few months. His wife has said that she does not fear him harming his children directly, but is clearly has been pushed to her limit in coping with his erratic behaviour. These include:
- Trashing his house after three days without sleep and believing someone inserted a computer chip in his leg;
- Throwing “holy water” at his wife repeatedly; (police advised him to see a professional and warned Cristina to give him some space)
- Claiming “someone was inside his walls” (this was reported during a welfare check where cops couldn’t reach him so they couldn’t do anything about it)
- Kicking his father out of his house and acting erratically enough to warrant a police call (the report just ends with “Incident closed”).

Erratic
Some observers believe that Ferguson may be suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). He has had a long and violent professional career that spans 27 fights. That doesn’t include his run on the Ultimate Fighter reality series or his amateur circuit. Georges St. Pierre infamously said he had been abducted by aliens, prompting Joe Rogan to say he should retire.
Of course, the only people who can really say what the situation with Ferguson right now is a qualified mental health professional. Let’s hope that he goes to see one and gets himself back on track.

Title Fight
If you’re a true MMA and UFC fan, you want that fight between Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagamedov. Unfortunately, it’s never looked further away as Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier are set to fight for an interim title, while Nurmagamedov is currently banned and then planning to take a hiatus until the end of the year. Dana White responded to a fan on Instagram. He wrote:
“Tony is dealing with a lot of personal issues right now and can’t fight. Hopefully things turn around for him and he can get back in there.”
We hope so too. Ferguson is the real deal.
