Now THIS would be a great fight…
How much has the UFC changed in the last five years? Completely different is one way of describing the current state of affairs compared to even three years ago, but is it for the better?
After losing a number of their biggest stars to brutal injuries and retirements, the promotion was desperately in need of a superstar. Enter Conor McGregor, a poor Irish fighter who would turn out to be the biggest of all MMA stars, period.
McGregor Would Change Everything
By the time 2017 rolled around, after four years of fighting for the UFC, McGregor was pulling big strings. Constantly claiming he ‘ran the game,’ ‘The Notorious’ began exerting his power, and he had a lot.
Unlike anyone before him, McGregor was calling his own title shots, and then came the Mayweather stuff. Suddenly the UFC was allowing a fighter to compete elsewhere, in a different sport, while under contract.
Mayweather’s camp seems more than interested in Floyd facing McGregor in the boxing ring. According to Mayweather Sr., the father and long time trainer of ‘Money,’ fighting Floyd isn’t the only option for the Irishman:
Mayweather Sr. Offers To Beat The Sh*t Out Of McGregor
As per an interview with FightHype.com, Mayweather Sr., aged 64, claims he could beat Conor McGregor silly:
“He don’t want that fight. Floyd’s gonna turn him upside down,” Mayweather Sr. told Fight Hype (HT: MMA Fighting). “That be like you and Floyd in the ring! [Laughs]. He looks bad in the ring. That’s a done deal right there. They’ve already showed the best that he’s got.
“He ain’t nothing but talk! I told them people on the TV already, forget about Floyd. Let’s throw Floyd to the side. Here I am, I’m a 64-year-old man and I’ll beat your ass. I’ll beat the s—t out of McGregor! Anytime he wants it, let’s go.”
“I’m telling you right now, he can do all the stuff he want to do but this guy don’t know nothing about how to get your body right and the amount of time and everything you’ve got to do, he don’t know nothing about that.”
McGregor found the Chink in the Armor. It’s gonna happen now.
