In the battle of cowboys at UFC Fight Night 83, Donald Cerrone came out on top against Alex Oliveira. Watch how the fight went down here….

UFC Fight Night 83 is in the books, as the promotion travelled to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania last night (February 21, 2106) for another instalment of mixed martial arts action. Headlining the ‘Cowboy vs. Cowboy’ card was a welterweight battle between Donald Cerrone and Alex Oliveira.

Cerrone was fresh off a crushing title fight TKO loss to Rafael dos Anjos last December, and was hoping to make a name for himself in a higher weight division. He faced a tough grappler with knockout power in Alex Oliveira, and the stage was set for the Jackson’s MMA 170-pound debut.

As soon as the Octagon door slammed shut and the fight got going, it was clear that only one Cowboy would leave round one intact. Donald Cerrone was just too high calibre for Tim Means’ late replacement Alex Oliveira.

So in the battle of Cowboys it was Donald Cerrone who got back to winning ways in his UFC welterweight debut. His loss to Rafael dos Anjos now a little less painful, we can expect to see ‘Cowboy’ in a mid-top level welterweight scrap next time out.

But will he be able to make an impact at 170 pounds? The lightweight division is chocked full of killers, but welterweight is by no means a walk in the park.
