3. Royce Gracie

Royce Gracie won 3 of the first 4 UFC tournaments and fought Ken Shamrock to a draw (this was before judge’s decisions) in a super fight at UFC 5.  Then he disappeared from the UFC for 11 years.

Finally in 2006, after competing in Pride for many years, Gracie was scheduled to face Matt Hughes at UFC 60.  It would be the first time that Gracie would wear fight shorts into the cage, a move away from the traditional jiu jitsu gi he normally would wear.  Hughes had an armbar locked in on Gracie but gave it up (later he would state he did so because he knew Gracie wouldn’t tap) and instead ended the fight via strikes late in the first round.  Hughes was clearly the superior fighter.

After his return fight in the UFC Gracie would avenge his loss to Sakuraba at a show in LA in 2007, but would fail a post-fight drug test for steroids.  Finally his latest fight was that weird debacle against Ken Shamrock during a Bellator side show event.
