Tony Ferguson shared on social media about his recent surgery to address an MCL tear. According to the UFC veteran, the injury had happened less than a month before he faced Paddy Pimblett, who defeated him at UFC 296.
Ferguson experienced the seventh consecutive loss in his career last December when the young Pimblett defeated him via unanimous decision. During the fight, the 39-year-old appeared normal. Yet, according to the 39-year-old in his recent post, he was actually tolerating an injury.
“F***** my s*** up during a practice sesh, MCL tear,” Ferguson wrote in his post. “I kept it to myself and put it behind me ‘til after the fight. I trained like no one knew, s*** hurt so good. Three weeks before fight time I told a few of my crew. Nothing changed.”
Though the statement might suggest that it affected his performance that led to his defeat, the fighter noted in his post that there are “#NoExcuses.” Ferguson also hinted at this plan to continuously pursue his MMA dreams despite his current record and pros and UFC CEO Dana White himself voicing sentiments that it is time for him to retire.
“I recently took care of my leg (my MCL) and had surgery last Thursday one week after my elbow/arm surgery (both arthroscopys),” shared Ferguson. “Thought I would get them both done and double down. Got it over with so I can do what I do best. Beyond rage is an understatement. I feel no despair, just repair.”
