Today’s Miguel Cotto vs Today’s Nate Diaz
Sport: Boxing
As it is, Nate Diaz has already put the work into his boxing. He and older brother Nick regularly train boxing and have sparred and worked with light heavyweight Andre Ward. Their skills are certainly up to par and if they did dedicate their time solely to boxing, it would come as no surprise if the Diaz brothers would be as successful as they are in MMA.
But still, you can’t really put Nate in with a stylistic fighter like let’s say Floyd Mayweather. Or maybe even Adrien Broner or Paulie Malignaggi. To get maximum entertainment value, Nate would have to take on someone like Miguel Cotto.
Cotto isn’t known for his defense. He’s known for his incredible left hook to the body. He’s known for his tremendous chin and iron will. If Nate were to fight Cotto in boxing, it would surely be an action-packed affair. It would pit Nate’s toughness up against Cotto’s Boricua pride. And it would be an amazing fight.
Who would win? Well given their styles, it would probably be a toss-up. Cotto is an amazing fighter and he could box. But Nate, given a year to train just in boxing, could come up with a plan to beat Cotto.
