#3 Beat Khabib Nurmagomedov
Let’s get real for a second. Everyone knows who the best lightweight in the world is, and it wasn’t Eddie Alvarez.
Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of the most avoided fighters in the UFC right now, and for good reason. “The Eagle” is an undefeated fighter at 24-0, with 16 of his victories ending in spectacular finishes.
The Russian fighter is extremely durable and very dangerous, and presumably has all the skills necessary to beat McGregor. This is McGregor’s true challenge at lightweight. At current, if McGregor decides to defend his lightweight belt and relinquish the featherweight belt, there is no other fighter more qualified for a title shot right now than Nurmagomedov.
Nurmagomedov is a huge threat to McGregor due to his ability to take fighters down with ease and finish them off on the ground. McGregor’s weakness, as everyone pretty much knows by now, is his ground game. Up to now however, no one has been able to exploit that aside from Nate Diaz.
If McGregor can beat Nurmagomedov the way he has beaten everyone else, it would truly speak volumes of his dominance in the stand-up. After which, there would only be one more task to complete to become the GOAT…
