End of an ERA! The only 8 division boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao has said that his boxing career is now over and has decided to run for Philippine President in the upcoming election. It was rumored even before his fight against Ugas that Pacquiao could potentially run for President.

In an interview, Pacquaio has said that his boxing career is over and though it is great that he realizes what is good for his body, many are still unsure whether Pacquaio is capable of leading a country. Without a doubt, Pacquiao is one of the most kind-hearted persons one can meet, but it takes more than a kind man to lead a country.

Looking at Pacquiao’s career, it is hard not to be in awe of how much he achieved throughout his career. There may not be another 8 division champion, let alone get close to what Pacquiao achieved. The fighting senator was one of the most entertaining fighters, his footwork, hand speed, and quickness make him hard to beat.

What made Pacquaio great is not only his talent but his hunger to win. He was born in the poorest of the poor, so if he wants to put food on the table for his family, he needs to win. Pacquiao has been through it all from being the poorest person to being one the highest-paid athletes in the world.

In his career, he has beaten a lot of Mexican legends like Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez, Erik Morales, David Diaz, Marco Barrera, and even a much bigger Antonio Margarito.

What made Pacquiao great is how he finished great fighters, many are aware of how good Miguel Cotto was in his prime, and yet he demolished him, even knocked out Ricky Hatton in the second round. In Pacquiao’s prime, he was invincible. He had the power and was too fast that opponents think they were fighting two or three opponents in the ring. He even went on to beat an undefeated Keith Thurman.

It is just unfortunate that we also got to see Pacquiao get knocked out cold by Juan Manuel Marquez but that is part of the fight game. One of the things that we never got to see as well as a prime Manny Pacquiao face a prime Mayweather when they clashed it was a little too late. It did break records but they were not at their peak years.

Manny Pacquiao has inspired many Filipinos, especially young boxers. There are a lot of upcoming great Filipino boxers and even current ones like Donaire, Casimero, and many more. Pacquiao may have been the biggest name in Filipino boxing, but there are still a lot of potential stars on the rise that could move the needle as he did.

The next chapter in Pacquiao’s life is to run for President, although it is not yet guaranteed he will win the election, he has captured many Filipino hearts during his boxing run. If he wins, is he capable of improving a third-world country like the Philippines?
