Brazilian UFC Legend Anderson Silva Has Called Out Conor McGregor Again… He’s Accused the Irishman of Trying to Run From Him… What Even is This Story?
How is this even a thing? Anderson Silva has told Conor McGregor not to run from him, as he pursues a multi-million match-up with ‘The Notorious.’ Of course, McGregor is going to run. He’s a natural lightweight, while Silva has fought most of his career at middleweight. It’s insane that we’re even talking about this, but it is McGregor’s fault. He told ESPN:
“I would be interested in an Anderson Silva bout. I swear to God. Anderson is a legend in the game. What’s the difference between him and Georges? Same damn thing. I’m going to do fights that interest me or have meaning.”
This is absolute nonsense and just should not happen. Now Silva has gone on the offensive again because he sees dollar signs. Of course, the Brazilian can’t be blamed, but does anyone actually want to see this fight?
Let’s Fight
Silva is deadly serious about fighting McGregor. As two of the most iconic strikers in MMA, he believes that this is a fight that fans would like to see. He also thinks that a catchweight of 180lbs would be fair for the two men to face off. Silva told the MMA Hour:
“I believe 180 (pounds) is good for me and McGregor. I’m just waiting, because I don’t control this. This is a question for Dana, but I believe this an amazing fight for the fans.”
Really? Does he really? Silva might be 43-years-old and past his best, but he’s the most successful middleweight of all time and previously held a record for the longest title reign. He’s even fought a couple of times at light-heavyweight – most recently against Daniel Cormier. That just shows how big he is.

Run Away
Silva says that he has three fights left. Obviously, he wants to make as much money as possible before his career ends. He’s been promised a title shot if he beats Israel Adesanya – a big if because he’s one the UFC’s most exciting young prospects. ‘The Spider’ said:
“It’s close to happening you know, but McGregor, come on, man. Let’s go do this. Don’t run, man, don’t run. You scared? Let’s go.”
The highest weight class McGregor has fought at is welterweight, and that was against Nate Diaz, another natural lightweight. ‘The Notorious’ also suffered severe cardio issues in the later rounds of both fights with Diaz, because the extra muscle mass combined with his striking output caused him to gas out.

Don’t Get Excited
In reality, McGregor would be insane to take this fight. So he probably will. In all seriousness, the Irishman isn’t going to take another freakshow fight against the veteran Brazilian. It’s way too risky and he has nothing to gain by beating Silva, except more money. It won’t enhance his legacy.
Meanwhile, Silva might want to concentrate on how he’s going to beat ‘The Last Stylebender.’ The New Zealander is one of the most exciting strikers in the middleweight division and has been compared to ‘The Spider.’ That’s not an easy fight by any means.
