Interim heavyweight champ Tom Aspinall is not backing out of a fight if he’s offered one, even if the fighter is from another class weight. In line with that, in case light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira agrees to face him, the Briton promised to accept it without a doubt.
Pereira and Aspinall are two of the biggest names in the MMA world today, but neither still has fights booked. As such, with the UFC 300 approaching, rumors started claiming that the two would face each other inside the cage. Pereira’s earlier cryptic post added fuel to the fire.
Aspinall apparently heard about these reports and said he’s willing to face the Brazilian in case an agreement is established. Nonetheless, the interim champ was quick to point out that he is not a “bully.”
“If he wants to, I will,” Aspinall said on his YouTube channel. “But I’m going on record and saying I’m not a bully. I don’t bully smaller guys. But, if the smaller guy wants a scrap, count me in.”
While this is exciting, it still remains a small possibility. Weeks ago, Pereira clarified the content of his meaningful post, saying the message was not about Aspinall or the UFC 300. And although his coach, Glover Teixeira, said the champ can deal with weight adjustments to jump up a division, Pereira stressed the move to the heavyweight was “not the plan at the moment.”
