He was initially booked to fight for the title on his flyweight debut but unfortunately withdrew due to testing positive for COVID. The UFC then booked Figueiredo vs Moreno as the main event for the next UFC PPV card, the fight ended in a draw and possibly the division’s best fight.
Cody Garbrandt had one of the highest potentials when he won the belt against Dominick Cruz, many thought he would reign for a long time but unfortunately, he had poor defense in the striking department.

As for Kai Kara France, it will be a great name to put on his resume if he beats a former UFC champion. Not only that, but it could but his name on the hat for a title shot. He is also teammates with UFC champions, Alexander Volkanovski and Israel Adesanya.
When asked about his weight cut, Garbrandt has gone on to say that he is capable of moving down and flyweight maybe his natural weight. He has a naturally shorter reach and leaner body. The question is with a bigger weight cut, will it affect his chin durability? Either way, Garbrandt knows his body more than anyone so it will be interesting how it plays out.
