UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway was forced to pull out of his upcoming title fight with Frankie Edgar due to injury. Just hours later, his former opponent Conor McGregor was up to his old tricks again…
When Conor McGregor fought Max Holloway in August of 2013, the two were both surging featherweight prospects. ‘The Notorious’ defeated Holloway that night in the Hawaiian’s second loss in a row.
The Irishman would go on to capture the featherweight title with a 2015 destruction of Jose Aldo. ‘Blessed’ would also go on to win gold in the 145-pound category and hasn’t lost since that night in Boston against McGregor.
The similarities don’t end there, as Holloway also flattened Aldo in his duo of contests against the Brazilian. The feisty young Hawaiian now owns the longest 145-pound win streak of all time at 12.
After being paired with Frankie Edgar at UFC 222, talks of Holloway entering the all-time greats list with a victory had begun.

Holloway Injured & McGregor Talks Smack
Just last night it was revealed Holloway was injured and out of his March 3 clash with ‘The Answer.’ Yet another bump in the road for the featherweight champ, who was recently told he may have to jump to lightweight due to the new weight cut rules.
McGregor, classy as ever, took a moment to troll his former opponent whom he had defeated by decision when they fought. Check out the Irishman’s Instagram post below, followed by Holloway’s statement on UFC 222:

Holloway Issues Statement
I asked the docs if we could cut off my leg then ask the commission if I could fight handicapped. They told me at the end of the day it is what it is… Had dozens of family from Hawaii coming up for this one… I know it sucks but hang in there. We’re going to reschedule asap.
I know it sucks but don’t give up on the sport. Card changes have always been part of it. Changes are opportunities for other fighters to get their shot. Surprises are what make this sport unique. Hang on and I’ll find you at the next one.

My momma always said MMA cards are like a box of chocolate. You never know what you’re gonna get. I know some surprises suck. But some are good. Stay with me so you don’t miss the good ones brother.
“It’s just UFC with all this USADA, (the policing of) the weight cuts, you’ve got to be a certain weight when you’re checking in and blah blah blah — all of that medical stuff, that’s what I mean,” Holloway told Ariel Helwani (via MMA Fighting). “If they start adding more medical stuff I probably would (move up).”
“Every time I check my weight they’re in disbelief, but I’m like, ‘I’ve never missed weight in my life,’” he added. “I don’t know why they’re giving me a hard time, but medically if they’re the rules, then medically I probably won’t be able to make it because of their rules with the (weight) cuts.”
“155 might come sooner rather than later, so we’ll see what happens.”
