Former UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor Wants His Belt Back And He Wants it Now…

It seems destined to be a rivalry for the ages. Conor McGregor vs Khabib Nurmagamedov. Ireland vs Russia. Striker vs. Wrestler. Everything is set up for this fight to happen. All we need is for the UFC to make a realistic offer and for both men to sign on the dotted line. If only life was that simple.

There really is no better time than the present for this fight to happen. Let’s be real, the UFC desperately wants it. After Conor McGregor’s crazy UFC 223 bus attack, the company suddenly find themselves with leverage over the Irishman. Thanks to a whole bunch of lawsuits looming on the horizon, McGregor is going to want to make more money.

It’s no surprise then to hear that he wants this fight. Ok, throwing a dolly through the window of a press bus might have been a sign, but now sources are claiming that he is vocally expressing his desire to fight Nurmagamedov.

Bitter Rivalry

Once upon a time, these men respected each other. However, that was way back when McGregor was ripping through the featherweight division. When he moved up to lightweight the pair were always going to be on a collision course. The pair has been verbally sniping at each other ever since McGregor defeated Eddie Alvarez in 2016.

Things finally came to a head when Nurmagamedov’s team tried to intimidate McGregor’s training partner Artem Lobov. McGregor decided that, of course, the most appropriate reaction was to fly 20 men over on a private jet and storm Nurmagamedov at the UFC 223 arena.

Now McGregor finds himself backed into a corner by his own actions. ‘The Notorious’ really has no other viable opponent at this point. A trilogy fight with Nate Diaz has gone off the boil, while the whole Floyd Mayweather situation has turned into a running joke. Nurmagamedov is the fight the fans and the UFC want.

Word on the street is that McGregor genuinely does want this fight. An inside source has told Irish media that the ‘Notorious’ is in training for a potential match-up with Nurmagamedov and that he will be ready soon. The insider said:

“Conor is trying to do everything he can to get back into the cage and wants Khabib no matter what it takes. He has never wanted a fight so much. He doesn’t care about the money for once, he just wants to get this guy one on one as he feels this whole situation was caused by him and he wants to make him pay.”

It’s nice to learn that McGregor is taking responsibility for his mistakes. Needless to say, fans won’t care about that. Khabib vs. McGregor is just too good a prospect for it not to happen.

It’s Time

Nurmagamedov has one of the most impressive records in combat sports. The Russian is unbeaten, with 25 straight wins. Ten of those have come in the UFC. McGregor has no fear of his opponent. The insider has claimed:

“He would take this fight on for peanuts, he wants to make it happen.”

Well, Michael Chiesa’s pending lawsuits might change his mind about the fighting for peanuts bit. Nonetheless, we still want this to be the next major announcement by the UFC. Khabib Nurmagamedov vs Conor McGregor, for the lightweight title, in Russia. Can you imagine it?
