The drama surrounding UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor continues…
Conor McGregor is infamous for his outlandish antics in the lead up to fights. Boosting his marketability with crazy incidents, especially during fight week, ‘The Notorious’ lives up to his nickname.
Following his wild fight with Nate Diaz at UFC 196, McGregor was booked in for an immediate rematch at UFC 200. When things went south after the Irishman no-showed a press conference, the fight was moved to UFC 202. Then came the wild bottle fight at the pre-fight presser.
Expensive Water Bottles
The water bottle fight between Conor McGregor and the Diaz crew might have been highly entertaining, but it proved very costly for McGregor. The Irishman was fined a hefty $150,000 by the Nevada Athletic Commission yesterday for the incident before UFC 202.
Having made millions for the state commission during his five fight in Las Vegas, McGregor is understandably annoyed. Speaking with UFC president Dana White, via MMAFighting.com, McGregor says he is done fighting in Nevada.
Bye Bye Vegas
The Nevada commission has really shot themselves in the foot here. This is far from the first time the NSAC has proven they are the joke of the combat sports world, though. When they banned Nick Diaz for five years over an unconfirmed drug test failure, the commission opened themselves up to worlds of criticism.
After the Nick Diaz saga, and now this latest blooper, the NSAC seems to have an salvageable and terrible reputation. Since the Nick Diaz ban, the commission folded under public pressure and reduced his ban.
Will Nevada bite the bullet and refund some of McGregor’s cash? If they don’t, they’ve just lost themselves millions in future revenue. ‘The Notorious’ had a simple response to the hefty fine, but clearly it does bother him. Check out what he posted to Twitter.
I get fined more than these bums get paid
