Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the greatest boxers to have ever lived. His 50-0 record speaks for itself. He’s been in and out of the media of late, as he is constantly linked to an MMA appearance against Conor McGregor. The American has been trolling fans by posting videos of himself entering an octagon and training with MMA gloves on.

However, Mayweather also has an unfortunate history of lawsuits related to alleged domestic violence. It’s the one thing that has tarnished his career. In 2014 his then-girlfriend sued him, arguing that he physically abused her during an argument.

It’s a reputation that’s proven to be very difficult to shake for Mayweather Jr. Matters were made worse when his father Floyd Mayweather Sr. was arrested this year, in relation to an alleged assault on a woman, after his son fought Conor McGregor in Las Vegas last August. Now Mayweather Jr. is back in court, but this time he is the one pressing charges.

Original Charges

The case against Mayweather Jr is ongoing. His girlfriend of the time is accusing him of defamation and physical assault. Mayweather is alleged to have twisted his girlfriend’s arm and then choked her. It is then alleged that he brandished a gun towards her foot and said:

“Which toe do you want me to shoot?”

Obviously, this has not helped Mayweather’s image in any way and has been a constant part of the trash talk that his opponents have used against him. This includes the likes of Conor McGregor who had no problem reminding the Las Vegas resident of his alleged troubles.

Counter-Sueing

Now, though, the tables have turned. Mayweather is the one pressing charges. He is accusing his former partner of having stolen cash from him over the course of their relationship. It’s all very messy. The retired boxer’s attorney wrote in court documents:

“As a result of that confidence, Mayweather, whose education ended at eighth grade, did not audit or otherwise inspect either his cash or his credit card statements for theft by his fiancee.”

Considering Mayweather’s net worth is estimated to be somewhere between $700 million and $1 billion, it’s fair to say he will be able to afford whatever legal costs are racked up out of this one.

Happy Birthday Floyd

As it is so messy and appears to be one person’s word against another’s, the opposing cases have been set for trial. In the understatement of the decade, Judge Monica Bachner at Los Angeles Superior County Court said:

“I’d like this to set this for trial. I understand it’s complicated.”

In brighter news for Mayweather, he turned 41 last Saturday. He had a big birthday celebration, at a Fifty Shades of Grey-themed event. Guests included the likes of Hollywood A-Listers Jamie Foxx and Mariah Carey. And he only bought himself a new private jet, a Bugatti, and a Rolls-Royce. It seems unlikely that his legal problems will cause him to lose any sleep.
