Gegard Mousasi is thirsty for a victory to redeem himself. However, the Dutch claims that his PFL debut is still murky, with Derek Brunson reportedly turning down the offer to fight him.

Mousasi left Bellator after experiencing two losses from Fabian Edwards and Johnny Eblen. By joining the PFL, the former two-time Bellator Middleweight Champion hopes to break his skid. And while the PFL still doesn’t have a middleweight division to offer to him, the fighter revealed that the promotion offered Brunson to fight him.

Brunson is currently competing in the light heavyweight division of PFL after a decade of fighting under UFC’s middleweight. After losing to Jared Cannonier and Dricus Du Plessis in his last two fights at UFC, “The 1” made a successful debut at PFL by defeating Ray Cooper III in November. According to Mousasi, the former UFC fighter was supposed to be his debut opponent but claimed that the plan is now scratched.

“Update: PFL wants to fight me very soon against [Derek Brunson],” Mousasi wrote in his latest X post. “He said he wanted nothing to do with it. 3x he has refused to fight me over the years. The fans lose. Let’s hope PFL can find me a MW. I am ready.”

With the lack of a middleweight division in PFL, Mousasi’s case is one of the common problems among Bellator players. With this, the fighters find themselves looking for PFL talents who previously fought under the said division. Recently, Johnny Eblen also presented the same concern but made callouts to Brunson and Impa Kasanganay, who both had experiences in the middleweight. Thankfully, as the promotion promised, it will create bantamweight and middleweight by 2025 and involve fighters who still don’t have their respective PFL counterparts in its superfight series.
