The UFC has officially added Li JingLiang vs Khamzat Chimaev in an already stacked UFC 267 stacked main card. Chimaev has been getting a lot of attention when he made his UFC debut and fighting the week after he just fought. His last fight was against Gerald Meerschaert where he ended it with just one punch.
Originally, Chimaev was scheduled to face Leon Edwards but due to testing positive for COVID, the UFC had to cancel the fight. Edwards faced Belal Muhammad instead which ended in an accidental eye poke. One of the bad things about it was Chimaev got severe symptoms, to the point that he thought of walking away from the sport for good.
Dana White then got the best doctors to treat Chimaev and now he is back and ready to get back inside the Octagon. It will be a big fight for Chimaev as it will gauge where is right now and is he still the same fighter pre-COVID?
Chimaev is scheduled to face #11 ranked Li JingLiang who is coming off an upset win over Santiago Ponzinibbio. Chimaev is yet to face a top-ranked welterweight contender and this is a true test of whether he belongs in the rankings. He may come in as a decent favorite but JingLiang is a great fighter that could possibly give an upset.
