For Loopy Godinez, her four-fight winning streak this year has happened by accident, adding she’s just doing what she loves. Yet, the fighter is clear about her goal: to get a title shot soon.
“I’m making records by accident I think, because it’s not like I’m doing it like, ‘Oh, I want to do this,’” Godinez said during a post-fight news conference. “I just love fighting. That’s what I do every day, I don’t do anything else. That’s my life. So of course, I just put all of my love and heart into this, and of course, good things are going to come out of this.”
The women’s strawweight division fighter has a rather impressive UFC record, with only three losses under the promotion company since she entered in 2021. After her loss to Angela Hill in August 2022, the female fighter made a straight chain of wins in 2023 by entering the year with a fight against Cynthia Calvillo in April. Her last was against Tabatha Ricci, whom she defeated by a split decision at UFC 295.
Despite calling her wins this year accidental, Godinez wants to win the UFC strawweight championship.
“Of course, my goal is to get the strap and be a dominant champion and we’re working for that,” Godinez said. “I know I have a lot to improve, a lot to learn and a lot to do, but we’re doing it. I recently made the move to Guadalajara to change camps, and I feel like I can see it, I can feel it. We’re just getting better. I’m just showing that I’m in. I’m 100 percent in this game.”
Her fourth win translates to her ascent to a higher rank from her current #13 strawweight rank, allowing her to soon face big names at UFC and, hopefully, a match to a title shot.
“I had that in my mind, and I do believe that going the way I’m going, at the end of next year, we could be in talks for the belt,” Godinez told UFC.
