What’s going on with these referees?!?

After seeing a number of terrible referee mistakes this past week, we had hoped the UFC would set an example in Halifax. Oddly enough, this run of blunders started at the latest UFC event in New York.

Apparently not up to the task of reffing ‘big fight,’ the NYC referee fumbled many times in the main event. Now, just weeks later, we witnessed a very worrying call by one of the more experienced UFC refs.

Travis Browne Lays Lifeless After Brutal Barrage (Video Below)

During the exciting main event at UFC Halifax, Derrick Lewis stopped Travis Browne with a second round TKO. The problem was Mario Yamasaki, an experienced referee, let Browne take way too many strikes.

‘Hapa’ was clearly rocked on the feet, stumbling to the mat, where the referee stood by until he was out cold and taking unnecessary punishment. Watch on the video player below, if you have the stomach.

This post-fight interview shows numerous angles of the brutal stoppage:

Basically, if you get Yamasaki as the referee, you better hope he ain’t getting someone killed. Also competing in Canada was former welterweight champion Johny Hendricks.

‘Bigg Rigg’ faced Hector Lombard in his first middleweight contest, edging his way to a decision win. Here’s the full UFC Fight Night Halifax Results List:

  1. part of the problem with mma, fighters will continue pounding the face and head of an unconscious fighter, especially inexperienced fighters…i believe some would beat their opponent to death

  2. That didn’t look overly egregiously late. I didn’t read where he was in a coma though?

  3. He was not rocked to the ground he lost his balance trying to dodge a punch causing him to fall. Travis only took one hit after he was out.
