He is known for saying “My balls was hot” he is none other than Derrick Lewis. If you ever watch Lewis in a fight, one would think that guy has 0 skills. A lot of doubters would say Lewis has no technique but simply relies on power. To all the doubters out there, Lewis will be fighting for his second shot at the heavyweight crown at UFC 265.

Even being the higher-ranked fighter, Lewis is going into the fight as an underdog against the undefeated Ciryl Gane. If we compare both of their fighting styles, Gane has the upper hand in almost every aspect from the stand-up and going to the ground.

One thing Lewis has is power and once he hits his opponent, they go down. His fight against Volkov showed, he was losing the fight until the last seconds where he managed to knockout Volkov. Many would say he got away with it but that is also the beauty of the heavyweight division, they hit differently.

Derrick Lewis has been in the sport for a while and many would not have predicted him to be a title contender caliber fighter. He doesn’t possess well-polished striking and also high-caliber wrestling. He could throw flying knees or switch kicks which is impressive for his size.

Curtis Blaydes was considered by many as one of the top wrestlers in the division, but Lewis timed the takedown with an uppercut. It was a huge upset win for the Black Beast. Many would think Blaydes would have been a champion by now because of his high-caliber wrestling.

Many would still say that Lewis has no skills and relies on luck but at the end of the day, Lewis always finds a way to win. You need more than luck to have the most knockouts in UFC and even go on to become a title contender. His fight IQ and timing are some of the most underrated aspects.
