For Ilia Topuria, Conor McGregor is the best UFC fighter to target next after defeating Alexander Volkanovski. However, Sean O’Malley, who plans to get his second belt by taking down Topuria in the future, is not happy about it. With this, “Sugar” reminded the featherweight fighter that the Irish superstar is unaware of him.
O’Malley has huge plans for his career under UFC, and it includes owning two belts at once. For the bantamweight champ, this could be achieved when he challenges Topuria, who expects to steal the featherweight title from Volkanovski. In his recent tweet, the 29-year-old called the young Topuria his “Eddie,” referring to Eddie Alvarez, whom McGregor defeated at UFC 205 to get his second belt. O’Malley hopes to have the same success as the Irish superstar, but the Georgian-Spanish fighter is not convinced the bantamweight king is the best choice for him.
“I offered to fight you but the UFC told me that you are only good for fighting in teenagers’ places, because that’s your only fan base,” Topuria responded on O’Malley’s post on X. “Our fight will never happen. After fighting Volk I will fight Conor and you will come as a fan boy. After seeing your PPV numbers the only thing I can offer you is that you fight in the preliminaries of my card.”
O’Malley, now being considered as one of UFC’s PPV stars, has found every detail of Topuria’s statement questionable. With this, O’Malley challenged the young fighter to make a bet involving their PPV sales and reminded him that McGregor “doesn’t know” who he is.
McGregor is set to face Michael Chandler in a fight on June 29 in the 185 class weight. The promotion still hasn’t confirmed the matter, but in case “The Notorious” successfully comes out as the victor in the event, it is certain that the Irish would find his next perfect target. And while it might be true that Topuria remains invisible to McGregor, he might soon get his attention. But in order to achieve that, the 26-year-old must first snatch Volkanovski’s belt, which McGregor used to own.
