This is Going to Make You Wince… Yusuke Yachi Suffered a Horrific Eye Injury at RIZIN 14 in Japan Last Night… Check Out the Gory Image Below…

With all of the nonsense about Floyd Mayweather battering Tenshin Nasukawa around a boxing ring for three minutes, you’d forget that there were actual MMA and kickboxing bouts on the RIZIN 14 card too. It was one of the biggest events of the Japanese promotion’s year and produced some epic moments.

Of course, the people’s main event was a bantamweight title bout between Kyoji Horiguchi and Bellator Champion Darrion Caldwell with the belt staying in Japan. Oh and we actually had a teepee triangle, one of the rarest finishes in MMA, when Justin Scoggins was submitted. There were some truly epic moments.

However, there was also some intense gore too, with one of the nastiest eye injuries that we have ever seen. If you’re squeamish then you probably shouldn’t be on this page, because we’re not exaggerating.

Horrific

It was a bad night for poor Yusuke Yachi who suffered the nasty injury that you can see above. The Japanese fighter was facing former UFC fighter Johnny Case when he suffered a vicious cut. It caused his eye basically to explode and swell up, leaving him totally blind in one eye.

Unsurprisingly, the doctor intervened at the end of the round and waved the fight off. With an injury as bad as that one, no promotion – not even one as dodgy as RIZIN – can justify letting a fighter continue and risk their long-term health. It was definitely the right call.

Eye Poke

Eye injuries have been very topical lately after Cat Zingano suffered a nasty cut to her eyelid in her fight against Megan Anderson at UFC 232 last weekend. Zingano actually got toe-poked, leaving her shell-shocked and resulting in a TKO win for the Australian fighter.

The result divided fans on social media. Many believed that as it was a poke to the eye, which is an illegal target, the result should have been recorded as a no-contest. However, this was not the case. The official rules state, as implemented by referee Marc Goddard, that the toes cannot be controlled in the same manner as the fingers.

If a finish occurred as a result of a knuckle catching an eyelid, then it would be totally legal. Sometimes the breaks are tough in MMA but that’s just the way it happens. Toe pokes to the eyes are so rare in the sport that it’s harsh to blame Anderson for what happened. It was a freak injury that doesn’t make anyone look good. Hopefully, Zingano heals quickly and maybe they’ll run it back.

Appeal

Zingano hasn’t ruled out appealing the loss. However, unfortunately for her, the rules are not in her favour. She told Ariel Helwani:

“I have a damaged iris, damaged retina, haemorrhage in the back of my eye, increased globe pressure and of course the laceration. They want me back at the doctor every three to four days to make sure there’s no detachment on the retina.”
