One of the most surprising moments at the recent UFC Fight Night in Mexico City was Raul Rosas Jr.’s last-minute withdrawal from the event. This not only disappointed fans but also infuriated his own opponent, Ricky Turcios, who later called him “very unprofessional.”
The two were supposed to face in the main card of the event last Saturday, but Rosas Jr. suddenly had to back out of the fight due to illness. This automatically canceled the fight, although UFC CEO Dana White later announced that it would be rebooked on this week’s UFC Fight Night 238 in Las Vegas.
The exact reason behind his withdrawal was unknown, but a recent statement from the fighter’s father said that Rosas Jr. felt “light headed, dizziness and had low energy.” Additionally, the statement on Instagram Stories claims that the fighter had been actually pushing to get the fight, but the team ultimately decided to back out.
“To all the people asking what happened to Raul, he was feeling light headed, dizziness and had low energy. He was still ready, had his gear on and didn’t want to pull out of the fight, he was still gonna go out there and fight. But we as a team didn’t let him go out there. His health comes first and if he’s not 100 percent, it’s not worth going out there. Right now, he’s getting checked by the doctors. Thank you all for the support to Raul. He’ll be back.”
