3. Khabib Nurmagomedov
Khabib Nurmagomedov has been vocally upset with the UFC for giving Conor McGregor a shot at the lightweight title before him. He is right to be upset, as Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best lightweight in the world. But Conor McGregor is making everyone a lot of money right now, so things are how they are.
Khabib is a badass Sambo champion from Russia who has been fighting since he was a little child. Rumours are that he even wrestled a bear at 9 years old as part of his training. Like many Russian fighters he entered his country’s Sambo tournaments, and at 18 years old first competed in the Russian National Sambo Championships, coming in 21st place. He eventually become a 2x Russian Sambo World Champion. Then he moved to the states and started training at AKA with Daniel Cormier. Imagine growing up in a Russian village, learning to fight as a child, wrestling a bear, and then listening to Daniel Cormier talk everyday. It would be an adjustment for sure.
Nurmagomedov fights Michael Johnson at UFC 205. If he wins he should get a title shot next.
