Mixed martial arts is still striving for mainstream recognition against all the major established sports. In a world dominate by football, basketball, hockey and many other highly popular pursuits, MMA is certainly competing with some huge sharks in a small pool.

That’s why maintaining the image of the already criticised sport of mixed martial arts and the biggest promotion (the UFC) is key in sending MMA to big places. Unfortunately things haven’t played out that way recently.

Former opponent of UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor, Diego Brandao seems to have fallen on some hard times. He recently lost his last fight by submission, and now looks like he’s beginning to spiral.

The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt was arrested in Albuquerque, New Mexico outside a strip club called ‘Knockouts,’ for supposedly pistol whipping an employee of the exotic ladies joint. Check out the report by ABQJournal:

Albuquerque-trained mixed martial artist Diego Brandao was arrested Friday after he allegedly hit a Downtown strip club employee in the face with a gun the day before, police said.

Brandao, 28, who fights in the UFC and trains at Albuquerque’s Jackson-Wink MMA gym, is charged with aggravated battery and three counts of aggravated assault, according to a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court.

Brandao reportedly argued with a DJ at Knockouts late Thursday before leaving the club briefly. When he returned, he was not allowed reentry “due to his behavior” and “attempted to force his way in…
