Former pound for pound king, Vasyl Lomachenko is scheduled to face Masayoshi Nakatani. It will be his first fight since his losing his belts against Teofimo Lopez. It will be interesting to see what version of Lomachenko will show up in his fight against a taller and bigger Nakatani. The fight is scheduled to take place on 26 June 2021.
Vasyl Lomachenko’s performance against Teofimo Lopez did not look like his usual self. In the early rounds, he barely threw any punch that may led to him getting behind the scorecards. It may have been because he was cautious of Lopez’s power and counterpunching abilities.
It was in the later rounds that Lomachenko started to get aggressive and threw punches. He did not have any choice since he will surely lose the scorecards if he doesn’t engage. It was proven to be successful but Lopez showed great heart plus he was the younger and stronger fighter.
Lomachenko is seeking to get a rematch against Lopez but he needs to fight Nakatani first. Nakatani is not an easy opponent, he is a durable fighter and plus he is much taller and longer than Lomachenko. It will be interesting how Lomachenko will close the distance.
For those not aware, Nakatani’s only pro career loss was against Teofimo Lopez as well. Nakatani is also seeking to avenge his loss against Lopez, he needs to get past Lomachenko first. Nakatani had moments as well in his fight against Lopez that it was much closer decision compared to Lopez vs Lomachenko.
