Former UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones will return to action at UFC 197, but not against his original opponent. ‘Bones’ was first set to face Daniel Cormier in a rematch of their UFC 182 war, but things got switched up.

Cormier was injured and forced off the card this past week, and replaced by Ovince Saint Preux. The change of opponent raises some interesting questions, especially given the fact OSP is a lot taller than Cormier.

It’s a strange turn of events, given that last time Jones fought he was the undisputed champion, and defeated Cormier in a five round war. Once ‘Bones’ was stripped following the New Mexico hit-and-run, Cormier took out Anthony Johnson to claim the belt at UFC 187.

Defending once against Alexander Gustafsson at UFC 192, ‘DC’ has been met with mixed reviews because of his loss against Jon Jones. OSP could further complicate the situation in the UFC light-heavyweight division if he beats Jones for the interim belt on April 23rd.

That would be a massive upset though, but stranger things have happened.
