Keland Simmons
Professional MMA fighter Keland Simmons was killed in a horrifying multi-vehicle car crash on May 27th.
Known as ‘The Power Ranger,’ the 24-year-old Simmons from Lafayette was the No.11 ranked bantamweight fighter in Louisiana with a 1-2 pro-record in addition to having been a three-time Louisiana champion during an 8-1 run as an amateur fighter.
At approximately 4pm on Sunday, May 27th, an 18-wheeler travelling on the I-12 in Covington, LA failed to stop in time as it approached a traffic jam, resulting in it smashing into nine vehicles, jackknifing and bursting into flames.
One of those vehicles, a Lexus IS350 contained Simmons and his mother Yolanda, who was driving at the time.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, while the driver of the truck and another female in a Toyota 4Runner also lost their lives.
