One of the most accomplished heavyweight mixed martial artist has got to be Alistair Overeem. He has been in the game for so long and still competes to this day, as a top contender in the UFC heavyweight rankings. He has achieved a lot in his career the only thing that he lacks is the UFC belt.

With a few setbacks by viscous knockouts, he still looks to have what it takes to be title contender. He added great grappling in his game, and his last loss was controversial. The fight was one sided until the knockout punch which was early stoppage. When he got knocked down by Rozenstruik, he got back up immediately.

Overeem has 66 fights in his pro mma career and that does not include his kickboxing fights. He has had wins over great kickboxing fighters like and upset win against Badr Hari so he is a legit fighter in the sport of kickboxing.

Prior to his UFC run, he was already a big name in MMA. He was a Strikeforce World Champion and beat names like Werdum. In his UFC debut, he faced former UFC heavyweight champion and WWE superstar, Brock Lesnar. He finished Lesnar with viscious body kicks that ended the fight in under one round.

He also suffered a few losses here and it was brutal knockouts, but it has not stopped Overeem from climbing back up. He has fought for the title against Stipe Miocic but fell short. He had moments where he got Miocic hurt but he eventually got taken down and knocked out. What is impressive as well is that Overeem has been knocked out a lot of times but has shown no sign of brain damage or CTE.

Now he has shown to have added more weapons in his arsenal, he already has great striking background and to add grappling is a must to become a title contender. He is on a two fight-win streak against Walt Harris and Augusto Sakai. His issue with his chin is always talked about but in his fight against Harris he showed great recovery after getting clipped by Harris.

In his interviews he said that this might be his last run for a title and that if he wins the UFC belt he will retire immediately. This just shows that the only thing that lacks for Overeem’s career is the belt. There are still a lot of hardcore Overeem fans that want to see him the title but the competition is gonna be tough. He has to go through names like Ngannou and Miocic to win the title. Jon Jones is also making his Heavyweight debut.

The Reem is already 40 years old, so he needs to hurry up and win the title before father time catches up to him. Randy Couture and Daniel Cormier won the belt during their 40s so there is still hope for him.
