ONE Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight MMA World champ Anatoly Maylkhin says that the exhausting and long training of Champion Fabricio “Wonder Boy” Andrade affected his recent bout, where he was defeated by ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Jonathan Haggerty.

The ONE Bantamweight MMA World champ is Maylkhin’s Tiger Muay Thai teammate, who took the risk of fighting for the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Title against Haggerty. The two faced each other during the main event of ONE Fight Night 16 last Friday at Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

Unfortunately for Wonder Boy, the bout didn’t go as planned, leading to his loss in round two. After delivering his left high kick, the English fighter rained the Brazilian with left and right punches, ending it with a final right hand, resulting in a knockout.

Maylkhin applauded the Brazilian’s bravery for taking the risk, noting that prior to the said bout, Andrade hadn’t participated in professional kickboxing events for years. Nonetheless, the Russian MMA fighter pointed out what went wrong in Andrade’s game. According to Maylkhin, although his teammate entered the stage ready, the effect of training for almost half a year manifested in his performance.

“As for Fabricio, what went wrong? It’s a fight and he missed a punch, and after that, things just didn’t go according to plan anymore. He started missing other punches as well, and the referee stopped the fight.

“As for the training camp, Fabricio was training every day, sometimes two times a day, three times a day. He approached the fight in good shape, and he was recovering well.”

“The only thing that could have affected him was the long camp. Fabricio had virtually no rest. He was in training for five to six months and could have gotten a little banged up from the training. That’s the only thing I see that could have affected this fight.”

Despite this, Maylkhin underscored that the Brazilian will soon recover from this fight.

“…Let’s move on,” Maylkhin said. “It’s not a big deal. Soon, Fabrício will prove himself number one again.”
