You don’t mess with an MMA fighter, whether he or she is a current or a former artist in the field. That’s what an assailant learned recently in Miami after attacking former MMA player Javier Baez with a knife.
In a movie-like situation, knife attacker Omar Marrero chose to have his act on the night of Halloween while Baez was in a parking lot near his Miami apartment complex. The man reportedly started the attack by screaming and trying to intimidate the former fighter with a knife and hitting the car window. Baez, sporting his confidence, got out of the vehicle to try to calm down the man, who even tried to retrieve a second blade.
Baez, nonetheless, remained calm and shifted to MMA mode.
With a few moves, Baez managed to get hold of Marrero, lifted him, and slammed him on the ground. In the footage of the scene, the MMA can be seen putting the assailant in a chokehold, who passed out.
“Once I started putting the choke in, he kind of just let it go because no one is worried about anything else but breathing when you’re losing air,” Baez told WPLG. “I was able to hold him down with my knee and call the cops, and he woke up, cops came, and it was good, easy peasy!”
Needless to say, Marrero was arrested and charged with felonies.
