If you’ve followed the mixed martial arts scene for any significant amount of time, you’ll know that Bas Rutten knows what he’s talking about. The former UFC heavyweight champion three time King of Pancrase, Muay Thai champion and kickboxer has been around the block, and has the t-shirt to prove it.
The 51-year old Dutchman first saw success on the Japanese MMA scene, winning the coveted King of Pancrase title in 1995 against Minoru Suzuki. He later unified the title against Frank Shamrock with a TKO win.
Bas was inducted to the UFC hall of fame after he retired with a 28-4-1 record. He held wins over legends such a TK Khosaka, Frank Shamrock, Kevin Randleman, Maurice Smith and Guy Mezger.
After his HOF induction, Fight Metrics stated the following on Rutten:
“FightMetric, the official statistics provider for the UFC, ran the numbers on Rutten’s career. They back up the Dutchman’s inclusion into the UFC Hall of Fame and then some. In the 4-hours, 27-minutes and 8-seconds he spent as a pro fighter, Rutten scored 13 knockdowns without getting dropped himself, his significant strike accuracy was 70.6%, the highest FightMetric has ever recorded, attempted a record 53 submissions and successfully swept his opponents a record 46 times.”
Luckily for folks who want to learn from Bas Rutten, the man himself has been making some awesome instructional videos on how to apply MMA in street fights.
