Few days away for the biggest fight of Saunders’s career, he will be fighting pound for pound king, Saul Canelo Alvarez. It is projected to be Saunders’s biggest payday as well so an opportunity like this could only come once in a lifetime.

Obviously Canelo is on the A-side, so he gets to pretty much dictate the pre-fight settings. One major issue was the ring size that even Saunders refused to fight on, since his best weapon is fighting on the outside.

Saunders threatened not to make the fight happen, had they not had a bigger ring on fight night. Of course, Saunders will go through that type of resort, he should take all the possible advantages that could lean over towards him.

There was a similar incident with Tyson Fury’s fight against Wladimir Klitschko, where they complained about the ring’s canvas. It looked to be much thicker than a normal ring, that it would make Fury harder to move inside the ring. They also threatened to leave the country and cancel the fight.

In the end, the commission followed Fury’s request and Fury won in a unanimous decision despite getting his points deducted. It was lackluster but Fury still came out victorious. As for Saunders, he is good friends with Tyson Fury, and he may have learned from Fury’s past experience.

Saunders was not even present in the faceoff just to make a statement that he is not willing to fight in a smaller cage. Fortunately, they came to an agreement even though Saunders wanted a 24 foot ring, they agreed to an 22 foot ring. It was initially 16 or 18 foot ring, but now has been changed to 22 foot. Fans will surely be happy about this news.
