After months of waiting, UFC CEO Dana White finally shared the first batch of names that will join its most awaited event, the UFC 300 in April. According to the executive, the event will feature the bouts between Jiri Prochazka and Aleksandar Rakic, Aljamain Sterling and Calvin Kattar, and Bo Nickal and Cody Brundage.
The promotion giant announced the date of the event last week, saying it will be held at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on April 13. White refused to divulge the details of the event during the announcement but promised the participation of Jim Miller. Now, the CEO shared more names on who to expect in the fourth month of 2024, specifically the pair of fighters that will enter the cage together.
The first of the fights to expect is the Prochazka vs. Rakic. It can be recalled that the two made their own arrangements for the bout after Jan Blachowicz withdrew from his UFC 297 bout versus Rakic due to his injury that requires injury. After the news broke out, Prochazka stepped in to volunteer, and Rakic accepted the challenge. The two later negotiated about the date of the fight, with assumptions claiming that it could happen in UFC 299. White, however, confirmed that it would instead be set for the UFC 300 in April.
Meanwhile, No. 7-ranked featherweight fighter Calvin Kattar will get a huge opportunity by welcoming Sterling to his division. “Funk Master” is shifting class weight after losing his bantamweight belt to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292 in August. This, however, won’t be an easy fight for Kattar, who has a two-fight losing skid to break. He also hasn’t fought since October 2022 after experiencing a TKO loss and a knee injury from Arnold Allen.
Ultimately, the latest announcement confirmed the Nickal-Brundage fight. Both are coming from their recent victories, with Nickal still boasting a clean record after his second bout under UFC. His most recent one led to the KO loss of Val Woodburn at UFC 290 in July. The fighter will face Brundage, who also made a recent success after giving Zach Reese a slam KO at UFC on ESPN 52.
