Conor McGregor Shares Some Christmas Spirit – Literally – as He Buys Massive Round in Busy Dublin Pub…

One thing that Conor McGregor has been accused of since becoming a global superstar is that he has forgotten about the fans that made him famous in the first place. A massive part of ‘The Notorious’s’ mega rise was the intense passion of his fanbase, who supported him from his days in Cage Warriors and drank Las Vegas dry as McGregor established himself in the UFC.

The Irish fans brought new colour to the UFC. McGregor defiantly said: “When one of us goes to war, we all go to war,” and this mantra stuck with his devoted supporters. Of course, as his fame grew, McGregor entered the mainstream and gained a whole new fan base in the US.

While he was once the everyman, coming from a working-class background and living off benefits, things have drastically changed. McGregor is in the top five of Forbes’ list of Richest Athletes. However, he definitely hasn’t forgotten where he’s come from, as the owner of his local bar as told media.

Open Bar

According to Liam Flynn, the co-owner of the Black Forge Inn in Drimnagh, Dublin, McGregor showed phenomenal generosity by putting cash behind the bar to buy everybody on the premises a Christmas drink, as well as cracking open a few bottles of his own ‘Proper Twelve.’

“He bought a round for everybody in the pub. I think it was about €3,500 – €4,000 ($4000-$4500). He’s so decent it’s unbelievable. He never forgot where he came from which is the good thing about him. He still has his friends that he had years ago who he looks after. He meets the most famous people in the world, but he still comes home and talks to me.

He always comes in here and shakes my hand. He gave everyone a measure. He’s some beer slinger as well. He must be good at everything that fella. He’s a global superstar. I will tell you one thing, what has happened to that young lad is that his whole life is after changing now.”

Respect

For all the criticism that McGregor gets, it’s worth pointing out that he’s actually a decent human being now and again. While some people will definitely be cynical and say it’s just a publicity move, the fact is that he did it in his local, so it’s actually a pretty cool thing to do.

Also, Proper Twelve donates $5 from every bottle to first responders across the globe. That’s a very classy way of getting people to be charitable. Sure he’s going to make a tonne of money off of his whiskey – business is business. But they would be selling well anyway, so he shouldn’t be criticised for giving back.

Back on Track

McGregor will definitely be hoping that his 2019 will be brighter than 2018. After continuous controversies – including the Bellator cage incursion, the UFC 223 Brooklyn bus incident, and the UFC 229 brawl, he’s been unable to escape negativity.

Now with his whiskey selling well, and the chance to get his fight career back on track, things might stabilize for ‘The Notorious.’
