Conor McGregor’s latest sparring footage has gone insanely viral, here’s why…
Former UFC featherweight and current lightweight champion Conor McGregor is all over the news lately. Featured in an unlikely yet wildly popular feud with Floyd Mayweather, the Irish star is looking to make his boxing debut.
Set to make a massive payday, McGregor’s future in MMA has already been brought in to question. After announcing he’d take some time off for the birth of his son Conor Jr., McGregor went all out in a number of rants against the UFC.
McGregor vs. Mayweather
No longer even linked to a mixed martial arts contest, many have called for McGregor to also be stripped of the 155-pound belt. Just this week, though, UFC president Dana White said that McGregor does indeed plan on competing for the UFC this year.
White also revealed that McGregor had agreed to the terms for the Mayweather fight. Meaning they’d be clashing some time this Summer, potentially, White went on to say its on Mayweather’s camp now:
Dana White & The Viral Sparring Video
“I think we’re there. Conor and I have agreed on a deal. Then you get a bunch of lawyers involved, and it (could get) stupid. It will be me and (Al) Haymon, in Vegas or LA.”
“It’s either going to happen this year, or it’s never going to happen at all. This isn’t something that I’m going to spend a bunch of time on, or I’m going to dedicate the next three months of my life to.” he said. “Conor wants to fight twice this year. He feels the same way. He wants one of those fights to be Floyd, if possible.”
So with the Mayweather fight creeping closer to completion, this latest post by McGregor has fans confused. Are the negotiations taking so long that he’s now training for his first title defense?
Why are fans confused over this footage? Take a look at Owen Roddy’s stance and striking in the video, he looks a lot like Tony Ferguson for our money:
El Cucuy
Ferguson was scheduled to face Khabib Nurmagomedov at the ill-fated UFC 209. When ‘The Eagle’ dropped out just 24 hours before the fight, Ferguson began blasting McGregor for holding up the division.
Are we seeing McGregor finally planning on defending a title, or is he just staying sharp in all aspects of fighting? Stay tuned…
