
UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has spent his last two fights in a different division. Fighting two weight classes above his home at 145 pounds, ‘The Notorious’ has spent his time at welterweight.
Following an unlikely fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 196, McGregor demanded an immediate rematch. Diaz had submitted the Irish star in a sensational turn of events. The decision to stay at welterweight caused some controversy.

After Conor McGregor defeated Nate Diaz by decision at UFC 202, fans and the featherweight contenders were crying out for McGregor to defend the belt. During his absence, Jose Aldo won the interim belt at 145 pounds.
Diaz was refused a trilogy fight, for now, and so things seemed to be on track for a featherweight return. Things aren’t quite panning out that way though. Suddenly talk turned to a lightweight title fight with Eddie Alvarez.

Both Conor McGregor and his coach John Kavanagh have revealed their interest in fighting Eddie Alvarez. The new era of money fights i rapidly becoming the norm. At he peak f this trend is, of course, Conor McGregor.
This heavily rumoured match up has caused outrage as fans call for the Irishman to be stripped of the featherweight belt.
