PFL Founder and Chairman Donn Davis believes that aside from Jon Jones, UFC has no other exciting heavyweights to offer in the MMA industry. In line with this, the executive is confident that whoever will win in the Ryan Bader vs. Renan Ferreira fight is the No. 1 heavyweight contender in the whole MMA world.

This weekend, Bader and Ferreira will be joining the PFL vs. Bellator Champs event in Riyadh. The two fighters are hoping that the winner of the match will soon get the chance to challenge Francis Ngannou, who is now focused on his boxing fight against Anthony Joshua. Davis not only echoed the possibility but said that the winner of the bout would be the challenger in the entire MMA industry.

For the executive, the victor of the match could even outshadow the talents of the rival promotion UFC, noting that “Bones” is the sole fighter of the company that could interest fans.

“I believe the winner of ‘La Problema’ and Bader will interest Francis Ngannou,” Davis told The Independent. “I think whoever comes out of this (victorious) has proven themselves to truly be the number one contender in heavyweight MMA – not just in our organization…

“I think outside of Francis Ngannou and Jon Jones, these are the two best heavyweights in the world. People don’t think that because of the UFC brand, but the rest of the heavyweights in the UFC are not particularly interesting. Stipe (Miocic) was, but he’s 41; he’s got one fight left. Then there’s nobody else on the rise there that’s any better or any more interesting than this matchup of ‘La Problema’ and Bader.”

According to Davis, given the records and achievements of Bader and Ferreira, it makes sense for the winner to challenge Ngannou. The former UFC heavyweight still hasn’t affirmed the idea, but the promotion is more than willing to arrange the fight.

“Bader has ruled the roost in Bellator for five years; ‘La Problema’ is the toughest, most athletic opponent in the world,” Davis said. “I don’t know who’s gonna win that, but I think whoever wins that can lay claim to challenge Francis – and I’m interested to see if Francis accepts that.”
