After three years of inactivity, UFC’s first women’s featherweight champion, Germaine de Randamie, is reportedly coming back into the cage on April 6.
“The Iron Lady” hasn’t fought since the end of 2020 after she redeemed herself through a win over Juliana Peña via submission in October of the said year. Prior to this, de Randamie had a five-fight winning streak that was snapped by the former two-division UFC champ Amanda Nunes, who also defeated her back in 2013. Now, after a long rest, the Dutch female fighter is expected to make a comeback at the UFC Apex, where the card will be headlined by Marvin Vettori and Brendan Allen.
The news was first shared by Laerte Viana and was later corroborated by Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland. The UFC, however, still hasn’t confirmed the bout despite making a series of huge fight announcements and changes this week.
In case true, de Randamie will be facing a younger opponent in Dumont, who holds a three-fight winning streak she achieved from Chelsea Chandler, Karol Rosa, and Danyelle Wolf. “The Immortal,” who has a 6-2 UFC record, will be a tough match for de Randamie, especially after a long layoff. Nonetheless, as a former champ who fought the likes of Nunes, Peña, Larissa Pacheco, and Raquel Pennington, de Randamie remains a dangerous foe for the young fighter.
