2. Chael Sonnen
They have sometimes competed 2 weight classes apart, but the biggest “money fight” Bellator could make with GSP would be against Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen is a born promoter who also happens to fight; he would know exactly how to promote a fight between himself and Georges St. Pierre. This fight would bring out the casual fan like no other in Bellator could.
The problem with this fight is that it would take place in what Sonnen has labelled the “Gangsta Weight” division. This division is sometimes also referred to as the “Money Weight” division, meaning more emphasis is placed on creating marketable fights that aren’t geared towards a title. GSP has always been more of an athlete than a promoter, it is unclear how willing he would be to take these kinds of fights.
While GSP isn’t quick to trash talk, some of his most popular fights were against BJ Penn and Nick Diaz, where trash talking was prevalent both before and after the bout.
Sonnen will be facing Tito Ortiz in his first Bellator fight, with an inevitable bout with Wanderlei Silva coming shortly after that. I’m sure he could squeeze in a bout with GSP as well however.
