Eddie Alvarez

The most likely candidate, Eddie Alvarez is the UFC’s newly crowned lightweight champion after stopping former titleholder Rafael dos Anjos in his last bout. Alvarez is a great wrestler and his striking is also nothing to be ashamed of, so he definitely has the skills to beat the Irishman.

Furthermore, UFC middleweight champion Michael “The Count” Bisping said recently that Alvarez would simply ‘kill’ McGregor stylistically if they ever fought.

“I think Alvarez kills him man. He’ll just take him down and destroy him. I’m not saying that to be mean, I just think stylistically,” said Bisping.

Head coach Kavanagh however prefers this matchup and boasts that his ward would finish Alvarez inside of two rounds. Fighting (and beating) Alvarez is also in line with McGregor’s desire to become a two-division UFC champion, which is what makes the Alvarez bout the most likely to come to fruition.
