ONE Strawweight MMA World Champion Jarred Brooks is open about the idea of a rematch against No. 1-ranked Straweight MMA fighter Joshua Pacio. However, in case that doesn’t happen, the American wishes to have a match against fellow champ Demetrious Johnson, who’s in the Flyweight division.

“The Monkey God” encountered the Filipino fighter in December 2022 and managed to win via unanimous decision. That doesn’t end there, nonetheless, with the news about a rematch still circulating among fans. Yet, while still waiting for that fight, Brooks already has a name in mind who he would like to take down next in case the rematch doesn’t see the light of day — Johnson.

In his recent statement, Brooks shared his praises for Johnson, saying he’s someone he looks up to and respects. Nonetheless, the strawweight champ is certain he will give Johnson a real fight in case his proposed bout is pushed.

“DJ is the main fight, period. I have nothing but respect for him. The way that I have been calling out, it can seem like it is disrespectful, but you’ve got to sell fights too,” Brooks said. “I have nothing but love for DJ, but as far as us fighting, man, I’m here to kill you, bro. You’re literally the person I looked up to, and if I’ve gotta put the sword in you, I’ll be that person.”

Both have impressive records in their respective divisions, but Brooks believes he can defeat Johnson on stage through his experiences with different knockout masters. Even more, the fighter said there’s only a limited time frame on when Johnsons could beat him.

“I have plans for all of [the opponents I might face] and ways to beat them,” said Brooks. “I mean, it’s either you’re going to catch me with something that is out of the blue, like a one-in-ten chance, or you’re gonna get beat by me.
